4th July , Deepcut Barracks


Well would we be tough enough !

Emma and I(mixed pair), Matt , John and James(all solo) would give it a go , I hoped it would live up to the hype I gave last years event to the others !

Early morning Emma and I set of with help of sat nav which crashed big time perhaps Army cloaking device in operation ! well Atlas and AA directions got us there , my memory not as good as i thought ! .

We set off on our 8 mile practice lap with not as much time in hand as we had hoped , arriving back at start with only 15 minutes to go we agreed Emma would go first.

At 10.30 6 hour pairs and solo's including Emma and James start in a cloud of dust with Matt and John to join 15 minutes later in the 4hr male and vets category's.

In just under 44 minutes Emma appeared with a large grin hidden under her dusty face ! Awesome she said so  I was off into a twisty singletrack heaven only separated by short fire roads!.

Time went by very quickly , Emma and I were already playing catch up with 2 other very good mixed team Tunnel Hill Trolls and WXC Team which would take the full 6 hours to bring us back on level terms , my last lap saw Emma take over from me on level terms with the Trolls and just behind WXC , with all to do Emma had to race against said teams boys after may be poor tactics on our behalf.

She pulled out all but alas it wasn't our day finishing third ! But pairs is so much more sociable mixing with other competitors in the change over .

Matt had a storming ride in the the 4 hour event finishing 3rd , but poor John with major shifting troubles and James crashed on his 6th lap to leave him with a swollen ankle , it was truly a course to spit you out with a moments lack of concentration , but a must for next year !

RESULTS:

Emma /Andy mixed 6 hours 3rd place with 9 laps in 6.28.12

Matt 4 hours male 3rd place in 4.15.45

James 6 hours 40+ male retired after 6 laps in 4.02.52

John (1 gear) Davies in the 4 hour 40+ male completing 5 laps in 4.46.40
