Brass Monkeys Rd 1

Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot -  29th Nov 2009

A wet and windy day met 3 riders from the Southdownsbike.com club for the inaugural round of the Merida Brass Monkeys Winter Enduro Series organised by Gorrick. We were all signed up for the 4hr Enduro but with the entries extended from 400 to 500 in the last week meant the race started 30 minutes late with a long line to register in the cold and rain. On to the racing... If Noah had built his Ark in Aldershot, today would have been the day he launched it. Epic amounts of rain fell over Saturday night and during most of raceday too. I'm sure there was even hail at one point with a subsequent temperature drop to chill you to the core. At 10:30 the 2hr competitors were off and we followed 10 minutes later. The course was a decent mix of singletrack and fire roads, with a few nice technical bits too and plenty of streams which by the end were pretty swollen and unrideable. With all that mother nature threw at it the course held up really well, pity the bikes didn't everybody was riding the last laps with no brakes. All in all a great day spent in the mud of Hampshire with all three riders riding well.

Alex Davey in the 4hr Male cat came in 24th in 4 hrs 36 completing 5 laps.
Andy Goodyer in the 4hr Male Vet cat came in 9th in 4hrs 38 completing 5 laps.
In the same category John Davies came in 24th in 4hrs 03 completing 4 laps.

Roll on the next round on Mon 28th Dec at Ash Ranges.
