Gorrick Spring Series Round 2

Alex Taylor & Ben Connor
The dry weather and open trails created a fast flowing course with one major climb, a loose scrabbily vertical wall of a hill! The sunshine also meant one of the largest entries at a Gorrick I can remember.

A decent turn out for the club. There was a trio of South Downs Bikes jerseys in the Masters race with myself, Alex T and Matt. Steve rode the Super Vets, Mr Petherbridge in the Grand Vets and James B in Sport.

Ian Petherbridge
Alex and I were nose to tail the entire race but he just pipped me on the final lap for 15th with Matt wrestling his fully rigid bike around for 24th.

Ian was an agonising few seconds away from a podium place in 5th. James put in some impressive lap times for 7th in the Sport race. Not sure what the story was with Steve who didn't complete the four laps.
James Bailey

(I don't think I could have faced that hill a 4th time either!)

Brass Monkeys Rd3 - Hungry Hill 22 Jan 2012

Another series done and dusted, not a good turn-out by club riders this year considering the great weather. After 2 events Ben Connor was in with a chance of making the top 5 overall in the 4hr. Also riding were Emily Iredale 2hrs, Chris Lillywhite 2hr, Damian Redmond and Stephen Turner in the 2hr Vets,Ben 4hr, Ian P, Philip Saunders and John D in the 4hr Vets.

Philip Saunders

The course was in great condition fast and firm but with 1000' of climbing. After the start the field thinned out pretty early in the 4hr race but was a little congested in the 2hr but considering there were 250+ riders in each event its to be expected.
In the 4hr races Ben managed to do a lap but was feeling to ill to carry on, Ian had a few puncture issues whilst Philip came in 34th and John 38th.

In the 2hr races Emily came in 3rd securing 2nd overall, Chis 53rd, Damian 48th and Stephen 84th.

Looking forward to next year and some more great courses.

S-No-w Race! Gorrick Cancelled.

The 1st round of the Gorrick Spring Series was cancelled due to the weather. So instead Ian, Dave, Jon and myself set out over Whiteways and Bignor to explore the winter wonderland. Much slipping, sliding and general messing about ensued. Basically it was a great excuse to behave like a big kid!

Entry Form

Weavers Winter Warmer Adventure Race

This was my first multi sport event of the year and it sure was different to a normal Tri. It was a team event, so I did it with a couple of friends that I do Tri's with at Steyning AC (only can enter in teams of 3), where you all have to stay together for the whole event.

The race was at Longmoor Army base and at the start you don't know the race format but just knew it was a XC 10k run, up to 25km mtb and 1k kayak, then a slippery 8 foot wall at the end. 151 teams started, the format ended up being a 2.5km run, 10km mtb (same type of circuit as the Gorricks), 5km run, 1km 3 person Kayak, 2.5km run, 10k mtb then to finish a tiny assault course. After the first run and bike, we climbed to 3rd overall, then were in battle with the Army first team and another team, they over took us on the run but we pulled them back on the bike. Going into the final leg we were the 2nd male team. Just as we started the dam assault course, there was a really annoying stupid wooden plank task (did not know we had to do it until we got there), where all 3 of us had to walk in sync on 2 pieces of wood. Could we do it fast ? NO, and kept falling over like a 1 year old kid... 2 teams passed us and we eventually came in 4th male team overall.

Had to have a laugh after about this last task that cost us a really good position, but still had a lot of fun.... Next event I hope to wear the Southdown Bikes tri kit when it arrives !

Laters !

PS : Sorry no pics, too tight to pay for them.... spend all my pocket money on bikes :o)

Brass Monkey RD 3 Entries Closed

Just to let everyone know! I was planning to enter on the day but this is now not possible

Brass Monkeys Rd3 - Hungry Hill

Round 3 on Sunday at Hungry Hill, Aldershot new course with 1000' of climbing.

Stilettos On Wheels

Look at the start line of any mtb race and the ratio of male to female riders can easily be 9 to 1. Hoping to address this is StilettosOnWheels, a new two and four-hour MTB race for women only in Stanmer Park, Brighton on September 8th. With the event, the organisers are hoping to create greater focus on women in mountain biking and their ambition for the event is to get more female riders into the sport and give them an opportunity to compete with and against each other.
