As John has posted round 1 this sunday , is this the end of the season or as i like to think the beginning of the next but can't wait but alas due to my recovery plan i will only be doing the girlie two hour races this year .
But there will be a very good turnout with James, Ian , John , Damien
and even a quest appearance of French Dave in the 4hr vets , i haven't seen Dave race since the EIGHTYS when Horsham Mtb held races at Coneyhurst , what a talent he could have been ! , bet not many raced there or even knew there ever had been races there ?.
Alex and Mat fight it out in the 4hr solo , with Ben adding a bit of spice !
Hope i haven't left anyone out ?
Looks like it may be cold , but please not as wet as last year when i had to take time off work as many of us became ill from the conditions !

Brass Monkeys Rd 1 - Porridgepot Hill

Going to be cold, good luck to all guys riding, wrap up. A little different to the last time we were at Porridgepot in July, we were grateful for the cooling wind then.

RRP Bordon Enduro 2010

The Bordon enduro was held on sunday 24th October and with it came a bright crisp morning, the opposite to my last race meeting I,m glad to say. Having been picked up at eight by Damian we were soon heading up the A3 to a track that was new to me but I,d heard good things about. Arriving at nine we soon had coffee in hand,  bikes out and layers added as it was quite cold out of the winter sun. Southdownsbikes were represented by myself, Damian Redman and Ian Petherbridge with the three of us trying to keep warm on the start line until the race started at ten thirty. All of us doing the four hour format, two in the vets with me in the 18-39 cat. The usual hell broke loose for the first lap with Ian quickly out of sight I tried to keep a steady pace on what was a great course of flowing trail with little fireroad to streach out on. With laps coming round at 35mins the weather remained chilly with the sun getting stronger when out of the woods I was enjoying this one hoping to stay consistent and not fade to much. Three laps in saw me grabbing bottle and food at the pits only to see Ian having tyre probs with sealant bubbling out of his front wheel and putting in a tube. The laps came round quickly and i had some great battles on the way not least with Ben Conner, a mate of Ian's who beat me in the end of an exhausting 7 laps. Well done to all, wish all winter race's were like that.

Damian Redman:     15th      6 laps     4h:14:22
Ian Petherbridge:       6th      7 laps     4h:18:56
Alex Davey:             12th     7laps      4h:14:27

Dusk 'til Dawn

The plan was to travel up to the 2010 Dusk 2 Dawn with brother Brian but with good family reasons he pulled out, leaving me with a solo drive to a solo event. Final training was a 300 mile road trip the weekend before so I was feeling good about some sort of result for the "southdownsbikes". Checking out the weather before I left confirmed I was going to get a soaking so mud tyres were packed along with all my winter riding gear, two Maxx-Ds, a Diablo with triple piggyback and a joystick. Journey to Norfork went well and soon arrived to a new side of the forest for 2010 including proper toilets, showers and cafe all seemed perfect including a blue sky. On the start line with 1000 other riders the first drops began to fall, its only rain how bad can it be?? First lap was a treat fast, flowing single track with only a few bits of fire road on the 11 mile route. Lap two and now the rain had really kicked in seeing me back to solo tent for waterproof coat and bottle change. Back out for no.3 saw a massive change in the race course as it was quite a challange to trudge round, bomb holes became unrideable and more and more rain, still I felt good and keep on plugging away. Lap four came round and the pits looked a right mess, thrown down bikes and long mud covered faces with the change over area thinning out. By now the rain had taken it's toll and the track was only part ridable, trying to plough on became impossible as chain suck struck every ten rev's in middle and granny ring and after what seemed like a lifetime lap no.4 was over and so was my race. Very disappointed, wet and cold I climbed into my sleeping bag at 0230.Home by 1300 on the Sunday, that was one to forget.

Cheers Alex.

Shop Ride - 6th October

Been a quiet September, there was a good night ride on the 25th Sept to support Martin at his checkpoint at Kithurst for the Maxx Exposure. After lots of ethusiasm we all decided against riding the event and did a sedate 20 mile ride with a pitstop at Kithurst for a beer and burger. Good night but we didn't hang around for long as we soon got cold, respect to Martin and co for stopping until gone 3am. Next up the October shop ride and then the Bike Show on the weekend.

Any thoughts on Contadors failed drug test, the plot thickens as plastifiers(masking agent) were evident in his sample the day before his positive test.

Also great result for Tracey Mosely gold in the Worlds downhill in Canada, Emma Pooley winning the TT in the Worlds at Melbourne and for Cav winning the points jersey in the Vuelta.

SDCC Represented at Yeti 25th Annual Tribe Gathering in Colorado, USA

I made a special trip the hometown of the famous American cycle company, Yeti. It was an amazing 3 days with the main even being a 34 mile 90% downhill singletrack ride from the top of a mountain taking in some of the Colorado trail.

The event was held at some secret location near Durango, where Yeti first started before moving out to Golden. About 250 Yeti fans and freaks were there for 3 days of bikes, beer and camping. The whole Company was there, most of the World Cup team riders and original founding members all of which were very welcoming and invited me to tour the factory on my way back to Denver.

Yeti were kind enough to lend me one of their many demo bikes to save taking mine all the way out there. See the video using the link (I'm wearing the SDCC Jersey) . I'll tell you all about it at the next shop ride.
